Vancouver’s So Loki, composed of rapper Sam Lucia and producer Geoff Millar,
have garnered incredible support worldwide on all major streaming platforms and
profiled on media tastemakers such as HYPEBEAST, VICE/Noisey, Earmark, BBC
Radio 1, CBC Arts Exhibitionists, Straight, and SiriusXM’s channel Shade45. The
rise of So Loki reflects their unique avant-garde sound that refines itself with
modern hip-hop and driven by raw, lyrical intensity. Their initial success first
came with the 2017 self-release, by their own indie label Owake Records,
of “SHINE” EP which was voted as one of major blogger Complex’s favourite new
releases of the year alongside Daniel Caesar, 88 Glam, Jessie Reyez, and
others. So Loki followed this up by inking an artist management deal with
Vancouver’s powerhouse entertainment group, This is Blueprint Management, and
its point men Justin Wachtel and Alvaro Prol.
So Loki’s 2018 release of “PLANET BANDO” EP propelled them to the next level
of commercial success especially with the breakout of one of its tracks,
“ELEPHANT MAN.” This track not only has received over 1.5 million streams
on Spotify, Apple Music and others but also has resulted in two Sync Licensing
deals with Red Bull Canada and the Starz cable network (Shed Media’s reality
drama Warriors of Liberty City Episode 105-October 14, 2018). Owake Records
also released a well-received music video for “ELEPHANT MAN” and released it
on their VEVO/YouTube channel. To top all this off, this track has been
nominated by the performance rights organisation SOCAN for its 2019
Another video release for So Loki’s “ATHLETE’S WORLD,” directed by awardwinning
Canadian filmmaker, Lucas Hrubizna, generated an Official Selection at
2018 Vancouver International Music Video Festival, 2019 Staff Pick from VIMEO,
official selection at 2019 SXSW Festival, and a top 10 nominee for Canada’s
2019 Prism Prize.
So Loki’s collaborative efforts with fellow hip-hop acts have given them further
international success. Teaming up with fellow Vancouver rapper bbno$ in the
summer of 2018, their co-produced “whatever” EP produced a Create Music
Group distribution deal and several multi-million streams / downloads.
So Loki, along with their dynamic collective team of talented artists, are also
laying the foundations for future international export success with their highprofile
branding of “owake” as a multi-disciplinary creative art house.
